Movie Review: World War Z

Standard

WorldWarZMoviePoster

I’ll admit this movie wasn’t what I expected. Which is a good thing because I expected it to be lame. But it wasn’t. It was actually quite awesome.

Right from the beginning the movie was intense. Every five minutes something was happening. It was like boom, boom, boom! “What’s going to happen next?” “I don’t let’s find out.” I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Every now and then there was a twist. I was like “What just happened? Seriously?” There were a couple of confusing points, but they were later cleared up. At least for me. There was never a dull moment.

Being a huge zombie fan (isn’t everyone right now?), I’m not sure I liked the zombies in the movie. A couple of times the zombies were almost comical; the sounds they made, they way they moved. They also moved way too fast and were stronger than the slow, weak zombies I know and love (what?). I guess that’s what makes them different and that’s what also made the movie so intense and action packed.

Another plus to the movie was that it starred Brad Pitt. Hello! Who doesn’t love him? His acting was amazing as ever. He’s great in every movie he’s in, but not every movie he is in is great. Peter Capaldi also had a small part in this movie. I didn’t know he was in this movie until the opening credits. He plays a W.H.O. doctor who’s lab is in Cardiff. What’s going on here people? The Doctor is in a zombie movie? Coincidence? Maybe….There’s also a small cameo by Matthew Fox. You wouldn’t even realize it’s him unless you’re really good at recognizing faces. Especially since his is mostly covered. I’m not even sure how I new it was him. I just the nose and his facial hair and was like “That’s Matthew Fox”, like we were best friends and I’d know him anywhere. It was weird. I guess I have a gift.

Though it was a zombie movie and there was killing involved, it wasn’t super gory. If you can watch the Walking Dead, you can definitely watch this.  It is rated PG-13 so I wouldn’t suggest letting chitlins under the age of 13 watch this movie.

Overall, this movie was pretty epic and I would definitely recommend seeing it. Since it is already out on dvd, just scoot on over to the Redbox and rent a copy. If you end up not liking it, you only spent $1.29 instead of about $10.

P.s. The price of Redbox went up from $1 to $1.29?! I know it happened awhile ago, but that doesn’t make it any less ridonculous. I guess it’s still better than spending half a mil at the movie theaters.

Movie Review: Star Trek Into Darkness [May Contain Spoilers]

I have to say, this was an amazing sequel to the first Star Trek movie. Usually the sequels aren’t as good as the first ones. Not in this case. This might have actually been better than the first.

Reasons I Liked this movie:

  1. Benedict Cumberbatch- I recently discovered BBC’s Sherlock and have been a fan of Benedict and his voice ever since. Him being in this movie made it 1,ooo times more awesome. The fact that he played a villain? 1,001 times more awesome! Not only was Benedict epic in this role, so was his hair. I mean, it took on so many styles throughout the movie and had a personality of it’s own. One minute it was curly, the next he was sporting an emo do. Then out of nowhere, BOOM! Perfectly quaffed. I spent half the movie wondering what his hair was going to do next. It was pretty intense.
  2. Spock and Kirk’s Bromance- I don’t know why, but I love a good bromance. Spock and Kirk definitely had one going on in this movie. They’ve come a long way since the first movie when they hated each other. At several instances I thought that Kirk was going to tell Spock he loved him, especially at the end when Kirk went into the radioactive room and Spock came a-running to see him one last time. Many tears were shed during that scene. Then Spock ran off to avenge the death of his boyfriend best friend. Super bromantic.
  3. Action- There was so much action and suspense in this movie. Woah dang! I was on the edge of my seat and biting my nails the whole time. Literally. I bit my nails down to nubbins on one hand. It’s a gross habit I know. I can’t help it. It just happens when I get nervous. There were some scenes that I didn’t know if they were going to find a way out of their predicament. I almost had an anxiety attack! But in the end, all was well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and would highly suggest that you see it. It will definitely be worth your $9.25. Unless you wait until Redbox (but that would be silly), then it’d definitely be worth your $1.29.

Movie Review: Silver Linings Playbook

I had been waiting to see this movie forever! I wanted to go see it in the theaters but I never got the chance because I was busy working. I finally got it from Redbox the other day and I’m kind of glad I waited. It wasn’t quite what I had expected. I was good nonetheless. I mostly wanted to see it because Bradley Cooper was in it (he’s one of my many celebrity crushes). It wasn’t until this movie that I realized that he’s actually a really good actor, not just another pretty face. I don’t know why it took me this long to realize it, and several of his movies later, but it did. He played a person with bipolar disorder and explosive anger episodes. He did quite well at it. I think he and Jennifer Lawrence had great chemistry. Speaking of Jennifer, she’s one of my new favorite actors. I just love her. As an actress and a person. Though I don’t actually know her in real life, I’ve seen some of her interviews and think she’s a great person. Just hilarious and a great role model. In this movie, she plays kind of a crazy person. Well according to each other, she and Bradley both are crazy. He’s blunt and says inappropriate things at inappropriate times and she’s very blunt and straight forward. Robert de Niro was also in it. He’s a great  amazing actor. Along with Chris Tucker who is hilarious as always.

Overall I it was a good movie. It started out kind of slow, but once it gave backgrounds stories for the characters it picked up. For me personally, it didn’t pick up until Jennifer walked on screen. It was funny, it was sad and it had a good evening. It was definitely worth the $1.28 (can you believe it’s gone up?) at the Redbox. It’d give this movie 4/5 stars.
